Search Engine Marketing and Web Site Optimization

Search Engines, Registration Fees and Paid Web Links

A properly designed web site will be designed from two perspectives. It will both look good to the consumer and do its job to close the sale and generate revenue and it will look good to the search engines and will be found by the robots and spiders.

When we design your site, we design it to maximize its effectiveness in search engines including but not limited to properly formatted html tags, file names, title tags, keyword links, robot text files plus many more.

~ Word Count in the Body Text Area
~ Keyword Prominence in the Body Text Area
~ Keyword Frequency in the Meta Key Words
~ Word Count in the Meta Key Words

~ Keyword Frequency in the Hyperlink URL
~ Insert proper Robot.txt files and Google ReVisit Tags
~ File Names
~ Page Titles
~ Keyword links
~ Links in body copy
~ Keyword phrases as header
~ Keyword phrases at base of page
~ Doorway pages…

Plus we always include a favicon icon for branding your site!

If we did not initially design your site, we will optimize your site for the search engines and then register your site with the above listed search engines for $950 – 1,950 based upon site size. Additional submissions (without site optimization) are $250/insertion.

Search Engine Submissions
Submissions are an important step in the process. We have all received emails claiming to submit your website to 1,500 search engines for just $19.95/month or some such thing. Do not be fooled and do not sign up (and if you already have signed up, cancel).

Submitting your website multiple times does not improve your chances of ranking highly on the search engines. Once a search engine knows that your site exists, it will spider your site on a regular basis. Submitting your sites multiple time is only a waste of your time and of search engine resources. Take that time (or money if you’re using a submission service) and put it towards other optimization efforts that will have an effect such as content creation or link building.

These top five search engines receive over 97% of all searches. Plus, many of the smaller search engines receive their results from the larger ones.

Search Engine Percentages of traffic (source search engine watch 7/06):
Google - 46+%
Yahoo - 29%
MSN - 12% (MSN draws their results from Yahoo!/Overture)
AOL - 5% (AOL draws their results from Google)
Ask - 5%
Others - 3%

Spiderability
The ability for a search engine spider to get through your website quickly and easily is of a high degree of importance. The easier you make it for a spider to crawl your site, and the more relevancy you can add on the way, the higher your website will rank.

Paid/Sponsored Search Engines: You can boost your rankings with pay per click advertising. Yahoo, Google & LookSmart all offer Pay per Click. Plus your Yahoo listing can be updated and upgraded for $299/year. (Paid search engines are only submitted upon clients' request).

Note on Search Engine Registration Fees: As of this writing, these Search Engines have registration fees. Search Engines are changing their rules of submission almost daily. All Search Engine Registration fees and/or express submission fees will be billed to the client at the then prevailing rate.

It’s important to note that your Paid Search Engine costs will vary greatly upon:
~ Your town, its popularity with potential guests, and your local competition (how competitively they are bidding.
~ We can control costs through adjusting bids and creating a monthly budget.
~ The number of terms accepted and associated with your account.

Link Popularity and Search Engine rankings
Link popularity plays a very important role in the visibility of your Web site with search engines, particularly with Google. Without other sites linking to you, you're unlikely to climb to the top of the search results. In fact, some engines require at least one or more links coming to your Web site or they will drop you from their index.

When adding links, we concentrate on related and important links only. Sheer numbers are no longer important. What's important is that the more popular sites on the Web link to your site, as well as making sure that the links pointing to your site are relevant to your topic area. Don't make the mistake of thinking that link popularity isn't important or necessary. High link popularity combined with some basic keyword optimization is sometimes all it takes to achieve top rankings. It's crucial, in many cases, to the success of an online business.
